GTA 6 lands November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Set up your stream now, so launch night is about the game.

GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it's set to be one of the biggest launch nights Twitch has ever seen. If you're working out how to stream GTA 6 on Twitch on day one, set up now, not on launch night. This guide takes you from the console to your overlay, so all you have to do on the 19th is press Go Live.

## What to know before launch day

- **Platforms:** PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version.
- **Pre-load:** opens at midnight local time on November 12, per Rockstar's support page. Physical copies hold a download code rather than a disc, so pre-load either way.
- **Unlock time:** Rockstar hasn't announced an exact hour for the 19th yet. Watch Rockstar's Newswire and plan your start time once it's confirmed.
- **Rating:** GTA 6 is rated M (Mature 17+) by the ESRB. Twitch adds the "Mature-rated game" label to your stream automatically when you play an M-rated game. Add any other labels your own content needs.

One more thing: the game's Twitch category already exists, but don't count on going live in it before launch. Plan your first stream for the 19th.

## How to stream GTA 6 on Twitch: three ways

**1. Straight from your console**

The fastest way to go live. On PS5, press the Create button, choose Broadcast, pick Twitch, link your account and go live. On Xbox Series X|S, open the guide, go to Capture & share, then Live streaming, and link Twitch with the QR code. It takes minutes, but you get no custom overlays, alerts or interactive extensions on screen.

**2. A capture card and OBS**

This is the full setup, and the one most streamers use for a launch this big. A capture card sends your console's picture into OBS on your PC, where you add your webcam, alerts, overlays and anything interactive. It's also how you get Stream Stickers on screen, so chat can throw things at your car chases.

![Diagram of a capture card setup: your console connects by HDMI to the capture card, the card’s HDMI out goes to your TV, and USB runs to a PC or Mac with OBS, which streams to Twitch. **3. An online studio in the cloud**

No gaming PC? An online studio like Lightstream can add overlays to a console stream in the cloud. You'll still need a computer to set it up the first time. Stream Stickers works there too: our [Lightstream guide](/guide/lightstream) shows you how to add it as a browser source.

## Set up your capture card

- **Turn off HDCP on PS5.** Go to Settings, then System, then HDMI, and switch off Enable HDCP. Capture cards can't see your picture with it on. Switch it back on when you want to watch streaming apps like Netflix.
- **Get a card with 4K60 passthrough.** Passthrough sends the full picture to your TV while the card captures for your stream, so you keep playing in 4K while you stream at 1080p. Cards like the Elgato Game Capture 4K S and 4K X do this.
- **Wire it up.** Console HDMI into the card's input, the card's output into your TV, and the card into your PC by USB.
- **Add it to OBS.** Add a Video Capture Device source and pick your card, then check that the game's audio comes through.

## Settings for a smooth launch night

Twitch's broadcasting guidelines recommend about 6,000 Kbps for 1080p at 60 frames per second. If your upload can't hold that comfortably, drop to 720p60 at a lower bitrate. A stable stream beats a sharp one that stutters. Run a full test stream a day or two before launch, with your capture card, mic, webcam and overlays all on, and watch it back.

## Plan the stream, not just the setup

- **A title that says what's different.** "GTA 6 day one" describes thousands of streams. "Blind first playthrough, chat picks the route" describes yours.
- **Balance your audio.** Car chases and gunfights are loud. Keep the game under your mic, and check the levels in your test stream.
- **A break scene.** Launch nights run long. Set up a "be right back" scene for snack breaks so viewers know you're coming back.
- **Spoiler rules.** Plenty of viewers will want to see the story for themselves. Pin your spoiler rules in chat and ask your mods to keep to them.
- **Mods for launch night.** A busy chat needs help. Line your mods up ahead of time. With [Moderator Access](/features/moderator-access), they can also approve text-to-speech messages before they play.

## Get chat into the action

On launch night, thousands of channels will be playing the same opening hours. Give your viewers a way to take part. With [Throwables](/features/throwables), viewers aim and hurl objects at your stream in real time, so a wrecked getaway car gets the reaction it deserves. [Super Stickers](/features/super-stickers) play full-screen videos with sound when a big moment lands.

Setup takes a few minutes: install the extension, add it to OBS and send a test sticker. The [install guide](/guide/install) walks you through it. Anyone can use Global Stickers and custom stickers for free. Charging Bits, Super Stickers and A.I. text-to-speech need you to be a Twitch Affiliate or Partner.

## Your launch-day checklist

- Pre-load the game from November 12.
- Capture card connected, HDCP off on PS5, picture showing in OBS.
- Bitrate and resolution set, and a test stream watched back.
- Stream title and schedule posted, with your start time once Rockstar confirms the unlock.
- Stream Stickers installed and a test sticker sent.

Get the setup out of the way this week, and launch night is about the game and your chat.
